Introducing the Raspberry Pi + AI Curriculum
We’re excited to launch our brand-new Raspberry Pi + AI Curriculum, designed to make computer science and artificial intelligence fun, hands-on, and approachable for students. This five-unit course blends coding, hardware, and real-world problem solving into an engaging learning journey. Whether students are brand new to coding or eager to dive deeper into AI, this curriculum has something for everyone.
What’s Inside the Curriculum
1. Getting Started with Raspberry Pi
Students begin by setting up their Raspberry Pi, learning how to navigate the system, connect peripherals, and explore its capabilities. This first step makes the Pi feel less like a tiny computer in a box and more like a powerful tool for creation.
2. Learn Python
Before building projects, students develop a solid foundation in Python. They’ll write their first programs, practice with variables and loops, and understand why Python is such a popular language for both software development and AI.
3. Circuits
Next, students explore the world of electronics. With LEDs, resistors, and buttons, they get comfortable wiring up circuits and seeing their code control physical components. It’s a first taste of bringing code into the real world.
4. Introduction to Physical Computing
This unit goes further by combining coding and electronics into interactive projects. From blinking patterns to simple sensors, students experience how hardware and software can work together to solve problems and create fun inventions.
5. Artificial Intelligence — The Highlight of the Curriculum
The final unit is where everything comes together — and where students step into the exciting world of AI. Using YOLO, one of today’s most powerful real-time computer vision models, students learn how machines can “see” and respond to the world.
They’ll experiment with:
- Object Detection: Teaching the Pi to recognize everyday items.
- Pose Estimation: Mapping human movement by detecting key points on the body.
- Custom Projects: Building interactive applications like exercise trackers, gesture-controlled devices, or even intruder alarms.
By the end of this unit, students won’t just understand AI in theory — they’ll use it in meaningful ways, creating projects that feel futuristic, empowering, and relevant to their lives.
Check out the Unit 5 video! In this lesson, we explore AI with YOLO and bring your projects to life.
